Consumer health data privacy policy
For residents of Washington and Nevada. It supplements our privacy policy and covers health-related information we may collect in screeners.
Consumer health data we collect
“Consumer health data” means information that identifies your past, present or future physical or mental health. When a study needs it, a screener may ask about:
- health conditions, symptoms, diagnoses or disabilities;
- medications, treatments, procedures or medical devices you use;
- health-related behaviors, such as diet, exercise, smoking or sleep, when they relate to a health condition;
- reproductive or sexual health, and gender-affirming care, only when a study specifically requires it;
- caregiving for someone with a condition, when the study is about caregivers.
We do not collect biometric or genetic data, and we do not collect precise location data. We do not set up geofences around health care facilities.
Why we collect it
Only to find out whether you qualify for a specific research study you chose to be screened for, and to tell the research client running that study why you qualify.
Where it comes from
Directly from you, through screener answers and conversations with our recruiters.
Who we share it with
| Recipient | What and why |
|---|---|
| The research client for that study | The health answers that make you eligible, so they know who they are speaking with |
| The facility or moderator running the session | Only what they need to run the session |
| Our service providers | Storage and screener software that hold the data on our behalf [list providers] |
We do not sell consumer health data.
Consent
Before a screener asks its first health question, we explain what we are about to ask and why, and ask for your separate consent. If you say no, the screener stops there. We ask for consent again before sharing your health answers with a research client. You can withdraw consent at any time.
